Self-reflection

Provide step-by-step guidance for effective self-reflection

Self-reflection can be hard. It requires a lot of skill and experience to know what to look out for and how to go from there. Our guided reflection Pathways offer the needed support! With the help of our video and AI tools, teachers receive personalised reflection prompts time-linked to the exact moments of their lesson recording to review the situation. They are then pinpointed to suitable PD resources for further exploration alongside suggested next steps directly within the Pathway.

Facilitate collaborative PD within small groups or departments

Unleash the collective capacity of your teachers as they work through a collaborative process of identifying PD priorities, upskilling themselves, sharing their experiences and building a library of practice for their subject, phase or year group. How Pathways work

Every teacher is different and brings a variety of skills and expertise to the table. Consequently, a ‘one size fits all’ strategy that doesn’t cater to the specific domain knowledge and needs of each teacher can impede growth and undermine adaptive expertise. It’s vital to meet teachers where they are, build a shared vision of where practice could be, and offer an impactful and adaptable path to get there.

1. Choose a development path: Coaching / Self reflection / Peer collaboration

Traditionally, this journey begins with a coach or colleague dropping into a lesson, taking notes and afterwards discussing their feedback with the teacher. Whilst this is a great starting point, it can be challenging to facilitate at scale due to timetable constraints and capacity limitations. Moreover it leads to the feedback meeting relying on the limited, subjective memory of both parties.


IRIS Connect’s video observation and AI tools on the other hand provide unparalleled insights into the realities of a teacher’s classroom, time and location independent. Our industry-leading technology allows educators to explore teaching practices from fresh perspectives, uncovering nuances that may ordinarily go unnoticed. Educators effortlessly and securely record lessons, utilising multiple viewpoints and audio sources to spotlight pivotal moments and individually or collectively reflect on teaching practice through the lens of developmental rubrics.

Record a lesson

Dependent on your chosen path and accessibility to our video and AI tools, you will now define a development goal tailored to the analysis of this particular lesson. You may have identified development areas through targeted reflection, as recommended by a coach or highlighted by AI Insights. If you have an active AI Insights subscription, it will automatically suggest you suitable teaching theory and skill models that may help you further improve the chosen aspect of your classroom practice.

This is where the adaptability of the Pathway comes in. At the click of a button you or your coach can now select relevant bite-sized theory & research alongside video models from our library, choose from one of the 150+ WalkThrus* or even embed your own school resources directly into your Pathway, creating your very own learning experience tailored to your identified development goal. All you have to do is hit ‘next’ and within just a few minutes you’ll have a better understanding of suitable teaching strategies and see them modelled in exemplary videos.

Reflect and discuss

As a next step you will now deliberately practise the shown technique and rehearse it either in person with a coach or colleague or simply record yourself practising it in front of the webcam, reflect on it and receive developmental feedback from AI Insights, your peer or your coach before you’ll then refine and implement it into your next lesson.
